Rakhi hails from Shahjahanpur District, Uttar Pradesh, and she is completely blind since the age of 4. She completed her schooling from Rashtriya Virja Nand Andh Kanya Senior Secondary School, VikasPuri, Delhi. Aspiring to pursue higher studies, she sought admission in Blind Welfare Society’s hostel in 2021. Strong willed as she is, in spite of several rejections and challenges, she gained admission in Miranda House, a reputed college of DU. She is now happily pursuing graduation in Hindi (Hons). Blind Welfare Society has been extending all kinds of support to help her realize her dreams.

Articulate speech coupled with a pinch of philosophy and unending optimism defines Rakhi who wants to script her own success. “As a visually challenged person, I have faced many difficulties and stigmas in my life. We're no less than others and need empathy and not sympathy to succeed in life. Nothing is impossible in this world. If you have the will you can achieve anything in this world!” After living with visual impairment for almost 14 years now, Rakhi has learnt how to live life, despite all odds. Her visual impairment is a "non-issue'' as she deftly balances her academics and co-curricular activities. She says she had realized the power of technology and how it could bring back normalcy into any blind person's life. Advanced technology, love and support of her college friends and hostel mates have helped Rakhi deal with her disability.
